This study explores the psychological tension and audience engagement in horror films, specifically focusing on the film "Sebelum 7 Hari." Utilizing a qualitative research methodology, this paper conducts a comprehensive literature review to analyze existing theories and frameworks related to horror cinema. The research identifies key elements that contribute to psychological tension, such as suspense, fear of the unknown, and emotional investment in characters. By examining audience reactions and interpretations through various theoretical lenses—including cognitive psychology and media studies—this study highlights how these elements enhance viewer engagement. The findings suggest that effective use of sound design, visual aesthetics, and narrative structure significantly amplifies psychological tension within horror films. Furthermore, this paper discusses how cultural contexts influence audience perceptions of fear and suspense. Ultimately, this research aims to provide insights into the intricate relationship between psychological tension in horror narratives and its impact on audience engagement levels. The implications of these findings extend beyond film studies; they offer valuable perspectives for filmmakers seeking to create more immersive experiences for viewers.
